Disulfide bonds are some of the strongest internal links in the hair shaft. They help give hair its natural shape and are part of why curls spring back after being stretched or wet.

Bleach, relaxers, perms, and repeated high heat can weaken or break these bonds. When that happens, a moisturizing routine can make hair feel better, but it does not rebuild the same structural network by itself.

This is where bond-building treatments have a different role than conditioners, masks, oils, or leave-ins.
