A heat protectant is not a force field. It is a formula that changes how heat, water, and friction move across the strand.
Sprays usually work best on damp hair before a blow-dry, where the job is slowing rapid moisture loss. Serums and oils usually make more sense before irons, where slip and surface protection matter more. The right format depends on the tool, the temperature, and how much residue your hair can tolerate.
The number on the label matters, but it is not the whole routine. A 450°F claim is most relevant for flat irons and curling irons. Blow dryers usually run much cooler, so the better question is whether the formula keeps the cuticle smooth while water leaves the strand.
